Two Schools, One
Spirit--2010 Reunion Event Planned For August 27-29, 2010 Mark your calendars and plan to come home for a fun-filled weekend on the Miramichi. The communities of Boiestown and Doaktown are planning a series of special events to celebrate the opening of the new Central New Brunswick Academy while, at the same time, paying tribute to the three schools (two in Doaktown, one in Boiestown) whose long histories will soon be coming to an end. Along the way, therell be lots of opportunities to catch up with old classmates and former teachers; to pay one last visit to the classrooms you remember from what seems like only yesterday, and to be one of the first to tour the new Academy. We are constantly adding to our Schedule of Events (see below) so wed recommend you check back often. And, if youd like to organize an event on behalf of your class or circle of friends, just let us know and wed be only to happy to help you promote it. Our Registration Form can be downloaded by clicking here. Were making every effort to contact as many students, teachers and former staff as possible but wed appreciate your help in getting the word out. At the same time, if we can help in any way by passing on contact information of an old friend or colleague youve lost contact with, please let us know and well do our best. The Two Schools One Spirit Reunion is the combined effort of folks in both the Village of Doaktown and what is now the Rural Community of Upper Miramichi. All surplus funds raised through the efforts of our Organizing Committee will be used for the support of youth and school programs in the Upper Southwest Miramichi area. If you have questions or want to pass along some suggestions or information, we encourage you to contact any of the following: Sharon Clowater, Co-Chair (Doaktown)

HOUSE DOAKTOWN LIBRARY As a special tribute to the teachers who were such an integral part of our school experience, the Doaktown Community/School Library is hosting a Teachers Tea on Saturday, August 28 from 11:30 a.m. 1:00 p.m. at the St. Thomas United Church Hall. This is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with fellow staff members from years ago and to reminisce about your experiences in one (or both) of the Doaktown schools. Later (from 1:00 2:30 p.m.), former students in town for the Reunion will be invited to join you at the Hall to socialize and to enjoy a Down Memory Lane PowerPoint presentation. If you would also like to participate in the Teachers Tea being scheduled for the Upper Miramichi Elementary School, that event will commence at 12:30 p.m. Please note that, with specific reference to the Teachers Tea, you are being asked to confirm your attendance by Friday, July 2, 2010. To do so or to request additional information please contact Belva Brown, Library Manager, at (506) 365-2018 or Belva.brown@gnb.ca. We look forward to seeing you on August 28. In September 2010, the Doaktown Primary School will be officially closed and its students relocated to what is now the Doaktown Consolidated High School. To prepare for these changes, renovations to the DCHS facility will commence early in July and are scheduled to continue well into 2011 (in the interim, the elementary students will be housed in a series of makeshift quarters located within DCHS). Because most of the Doaktown Consolidated High School will be under renovation by Reunion Weekend, the Library will be holding an Open House during which it will showcase its collection of old yearbooks, photos and other DCHS memorabilia from years gone by. If you have pictures, programs, sports uniforms or any other souvenirs of your time spent at either the Doaktown Primary School or at DCHS, please contact Library Manager Belva Brown or Library Assistant Bonnie Robinson at 506-365-2018 or Belva.brown@gnb.ca. The Doaktown Community/School Library is also very pleased to announce that plans are well underway for an expansion that will see the facility increase to almost four times its present size. A very welcome project, given that the Library has been serving a growing clientele in the same (very limited) space since 1986! A fund-raising group, the Reading Rainbows, has been established so watch for signs of their efforts during your visit to the Library. Reading Rainbows will also be hosting the Doaktown component of The Teachers Tea on Saturday, August 28. September 2010 will see the beginning of a whole new era in the communities of Doaktown and Boiestown with the official opening of the new Central New Brunswick Academy in New Bandon, a state of the art educational facility designed to serve students in Grades 6-12 from all parts of the Upper Miramichi area. At the same time, however, both Doaktown and Boiestown will be saying goodbye to three schools who, down through the years, have played an essential role in their communities and who all hold countless memories for the many staff and students who have passed through their doors. The Two Schools One Spirit Reunion has been organized for a three-day period in August to commemorate the closing of these schools while welcoming the new Academy that symbolizes through the union of its students a coming together of the two great communities of the Village of Doaktown and what is now known as the Rural Community of Upper Miramichi. As part of the afternoons program, your Library hosts will be bringing you news of their proposed expansion project (plans that include increasing the size of the current facility by almost 400 percent) and what it will mean for reading and literacy in this community. Donations toward our expansion project will be gratefully accepted and tax receipts for amounts over $10 made readily available. You will also be encouraged to visit the existing Library to view our Rainbow Wall illustrating the results of our fund-raising efforts. ~~ Your Donation Promotes Education and Literacy ~~ CLASSES OF 1970
