Our
ADOPT-A-BOOK Program
List of Books Currently
Up for Adoption (Sept 2007)
On
November 30, 2006, the Honorable
Herménégilde Chiasson,
Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick,
helped the Doaktown Library celebrate its
20th anniversary by launching our new
Adopt-A-Book Program. We are very excited
about this project because of the
opportunities it offers for everyone to
get involved in supporting one of our
Villages most important resources,
its public library, and by so doing, to
promote literacy, reading and lifelong
learning among our residents.
You can view our current
list of books that are up for
adoption (in other words, not
available at the Doaktown Library). Our
first list of books offered have either
been adopted or bought by the Library
board.

Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick,

Doaktown Library's Board of
Trustees. |
Have a look
and see if there are any that you
yourself might like to read or perhaps
theres one you think might appeal
to a friend or relative. Maybe you know
of someone who has a special occasion
coming up or, if you're a business or
organization, perhaps there's something
on the list that matches your group's
particular interest. Perhaps you've lost
a special person from your life and would
like to remember them by making a
donation to the Library.
If you
find a match, contact the Doaktown
Library at 365-2018 or email us at dtcslib@gnb.ca. A staff member will help you
complete a donor card and take down the
information necessary to return a tax
receipt to you. When you donate, you also
have the option of choosing text for a
commemorative bookplate to be inserted at
the front of the book or any other
library material such as a CD or DVD --
you might select.
Our wish
list of books and other materials
available for adoption will be updated on
a regular basis. Our last 20 years have
been memorable ones help make our
next 20 equally impressive!!!

Commemorative
CD
(View
our sample CD photos in the left hand column of
this page.)
The Doaktown
Library wishes to announce that the long-awaited
CD commemorating its 20th Anniversary
is now on sale at the library. With almost 300
color photographs of programs, patrons and
special events and exceptional people, we're sure
youll enjoy this walk down memory
lane. Included in this CD are
tributes to our 32 Fall Home Tour hostesses
(1999-2006), pictures taken during our official
anniversary celebration held on November 30, 2006
and a host of photos of the children and
grown-ups who make our Library such a great place
to be.who make our library such a great place to
be. It is a wonderful souvenir for parents,
grandparents, and especially those now living
away. A great gift idea for someone
special at Easter time, Mother's Day or when that
unexpected birthday suddenly pops up on the
horizon. Available for $15.00 at the Doaktown
Library, all proceeds to go toward improving
library services to the people of Doaktown and
the surrounding areas.
We have
received inquiries from several individuals who
would prefer to have this 20th
Anniversary commemoration in book form.
Unfortunately, owing to the high cost of color
printing, we are unable to offer an exact replica
of the CD in this format. We have, however,
put together a 44 page booklet which, we hope,
captures the flavour of the CD.
Each of these books will be made available at
$25.00 payable in advance (see a sample copy is
on display at the library).
For further
information or to place your order, please call
Belva or Bonnie at the Doaktown Library
(506-365-2018), e-mail dtcslib@gnb.ca or simply drop in.

Fall
Home Tour and Luncheon / Fall Frolic
Since 1999, the Doaktown Librarys Fall
Home Tour and Luncheon has
not only been our biggest fundraiser, but also
one of the social events of the year
for women in the Upper Southwest Miramichi area
and beyond. In 2006, to celebrate the
Librarys 20th Anniversary, we
decided to mark the occasion by expanding the
home tour and luncheon to include a Ladies
Fair, an exhibition of goods and services
designed to pamper both body and soul. In
addition, we invited local businesses and
organizations to join with us to sponsor
activities and events throughout the community
for all members of the family to enjoy the
result was Doaktowns first-ever Fall
Frolic and what a great time it was!
This past year
(2007) the Fall Home Tour and Luncheon was
held on Saturday afternoon, September 15. Tickets
were $12 each and included all three
events. Tickets on a sizeable gift basket
full of products and gift certificates from area
merchants were also sold.
And yes, everyone seemed to enjoy
2006s Fall Frolic so much that the
organizers attempted it a second time. This
past September (2007) they opted to make the Frolic
a weekend event to include the annual Terry
Fox Walk. Check the 2007 Doaktown
Fall Frolics Schedule
of Events to
see what took place.
