Photos from 2008 Fall Frolic

The events listed below are from our 2008 Fall Frolic. We hope this gives you an idea of what's to come in 2009!

  • Plan to spend Fall Frolic Weekend in the cozy comfort of O’DONNELL’S COTTAGES & EXPEDITIONS (439 Storeytown Road).  Book for two nights and get a complimentary continental breakfast each morning of your stay. See the many other exciting things O’Donnell’s have to offer (www.odonnellscottages.com), then give them a call at 1-800-563-8724 to reserve your rooms.
  • Start thinking about competing in the 2008 MIRAMICHI LUMBERJACK COMPETITION to be held on Saturday, September 20 (rain date - Sunday, September 21) on the grounds of the Atlantic Salmon Museum, 263 Main Street, Doaktown.  The Organizing Committee has gone all out this year with lots of events for both adults and novices.  They’ve even brought in – especially from New Zealand – a brand new Tuatahi M-Tooth Racing Saw for you to use in the crosscut competitions.  Have a look at the list of events and at the rules designed to keep everything “honest.”  Give Darren Colford a call at (506) 365-1912 or e-mail him at Darren_Colford@hotmail.com for further information, and we’ll see you at the Official Registration on Saturday, September 20 starting at 9:30 a.m.
  • Find a partner and sign up for the MIXED HARVEST BALL teeing off at the Old Mill Pond Golf Club (6 Central Street) in Doaktown at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 20.  Maximum of 36 Teams.  Entry fee - $70/team (includes practice round on Friday, September 19 and dinner on Saturday).  Only 16 slots left as of August 1.  Call the Pro Shop (506) 365-7584) to enter or for more information.
  • Vendors wanted for the SATURDAY MORNING MARKET to be held next door (on the ice surface) to the EARLY BIRD BREAKFAST at the Doaktown Curling Club on Saturday, September 20 from 8:00 a.m. – Noon. If you have crafts, baked goods, preserves, garden produce or “yard sale” items to sell, now’s the time!  Spaces available for $10.00 (proceeds to be shared between the Doaktown Library and the DCHS Student Council).  Contact Karen at (506) 365-1105 or kswim@nb.sympatico.ca for an application form or for further information. Application forms can be printed from here.
  • Make your reservations now for the Doaktown Library’s 9th annual FALL HOME TOUR AND LUNCHEON.  Tickets are $12 each and include a ramble through four of the community’s prettiest homes as well as a chance to get caught up with old friends and neighbors over a hearty lunch provided by the Grade 11 Class of DCHS.  We have always sold out of these tickets and we don’t intend to stop now – call the Library (506-365-2018) and book yours soon!!!! (See photos of homes in left hand column on this page)
  • Buy a raffle ticket – or two or three -- on a cozy tufted lap quilt in shades of cream, burgundy and hunter green at the DOAK HISTORIC SITE (386 Main Street).  With winter fast approaching, it’s time to start thinking about keeping warm!!!   The Doak House is open Monday – Saturday from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. (call 506-365-2026 for further information).  Tickets are $1.00 each or three for $2.00.   The winner will be announced at SQUIRE DOAK’S CORN BOIL on Sunday afternoon, September 21 – and it could be you!
  • Watch for Pumpkin Pat, the official mascot of Doaktown’s Fall Frolic, and Katythe Kubota cheering you on during the TERRY FOX WALK on SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 14.  Call Bonnie Robinson at 506-365-7629 for a pledge sheet, a T-shirt or for further information, and make that commitment to “walk for Terry.”
  • Prefer to paddle rather than walk? Or maybe you’re good at both!  The TERRY FOX CANOE RUN will be held on Sunday, September 21 (starting at 11:30 a.m.), which gives you a whole week to rest up after the official WALK on September 14. Registration fee is $10.00/canoe or kayak and includes a complimentary dessert AND free gift from the Museum. Call the Salmon Museum (506-365-7787) or Stan Donovan (506-365-7860) to register or for further information.
