Doaktown Salmon & Fiddlehead Homecoming Festival
    August 14th - 17th, 2008

The Village of Doaktown would like to thank everyone for supporting the 2007 festival and a special thanks to all the sponsors and volunteers. The festival could not take place without these dedicated helpers and contributors. We hope everyone will come out and enjoy our 2008 festival.

August 2nd (Thursday)

"Sciencesational Snakes"
Free Program at the Doaktown Library starting at 12:30. Please call 365-2018 for details.

Miss Doaktown Pageant
Doaktown Legion - 7:00 p.m.
Junior Queen - Those entering Grade 7-9
Senior Queen - Those entering Grade 10-recent Grads. (Also must be DCHS students of last year.)
Admission: $1.00 for Students and Seniors, $3.00 for Adults

St. Thomas UCW Presents:
Theatre Nite in Doaktown @ St.Thomas United Church Hall, Main St.
Donations will be given at the door for UCW, as well, beverages and popcorn will be served at the same prices as years ago.

9:00 p.m.- Aviator (2005)
As pioneering aviator Howard Hughes, Leonardo DiCaprio portrays a man whose bold accomplishments are shadowed by bouts of mental illness. The film follows his career through the late 1920's and into the 1940's, when Hughes directed and produced films and developed innovative airplanes, all while romancing Hollywood starlets. Rated PG 13, Language, Mature Themes

 

August 3rd (Friday)

Doaktown Community Library Presents:
"Board" No More...Round Two...
Come out to the Doaktown Library for an afternoon of fun with friends.
The event will host ages 9-14 and will be held from 2 pm - 4 pm.Bring your favourite board game to play with friends.

Baby Pageant
Registration Begins @ 2:00 p.m., with pageant beginning @ 2:30p.m.
Atlantic Salmon Museum
You must be a resident of the Doaktown School District in order to participate.
Age groups are : Newborn to 6 months
                         6 months to 24 months

Momma Mia on the Miramichia
4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
What a better way to finish the week than to come to the Atlantic Salmon Museum for an All You Can Eat Spaghetti Dinner. No muss, No Fuss and we'll even do the dishes so you can get to the Jamboree.
With Spaghetti, Garlic Toast, Tea or Coffee and a Dessert for only $7.00. Children under 5 eat free.

Country Jamboree
Doaktown Legion
7:00 p.m.
Come out and enjoy an evening of tunes with various local entertainers.

Outdoor Teen/Youth Dance
Doak Historic Site
7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Come out and groove to the tunes of Local DJ, Tommy Lee Storey.
Admission: $2

 

August 4th (Saturday)

Doaktown Carnival Day! - Doaktown Arena and Fairgrounds

Lumberjack Breakfast
Presented by Pharmasave for Breast Cancer!
Doaktown Legion
7:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Come and enjoy a feed of pancakes and sausage, roll or bisquits and beans. Hot from the grill to your plate.

ATV Run (Starts at Doaktown Arena)
8 a.m. to 12 Noon
Must register to participate. $10.00 (includes meal ticket for BBQ at arena grounds following the run.)

Old Mill Pond Golf & Country Club
18 holes for two with powercart included. Only $70.00. Savings of over $20. Contact Stacey or the Pro Shop for more details at 365-7584.

Farmer's Market/ Craft Sale

1st Annual Doaktown Carnival!
This years first ever carnival will have inflatable games, including inflatable hockey, bouncing dome and others, as well as carnival games, dunking booth, a petting zoo and pony rides, food vendors and much, much more.

The BBQ Shack!
The 2008 Grad Class of DCHS will be putting on a BBQ on the fair grounds during the Carnival.

Outdoor BINGO!
Just like it used to be under the awning, Bingo from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 pm.
Come one, come all, prizes on every game, the more that play the bigger the prize!

Salmon and Fiddlehead Dinner
Village Family Restaurant- Main Street
Poach, fried or broiled salmon, served with delicious home grown fiddleheads, with a choice of potatoes and coleslaw.
Served all day. $13.95 plus HST.

BBQ Chicken Dinner
B & L Restaurant - Main Street
BBQ Chicken, Potato Salad, Coleslaw and salad. Served Saturday and Sunday. $7.99 plus HST.

Biggest Dance Ever!
With over 450 tickets available,
Donnie and the Monarchs promise to bring Doaktown its biggest dance ever!

Doors open at 9:00 pm, band starts at 9:30 pm
Advance Tickets (May 28 - Aug 4) On Sale at Pharmasave for $15 ea. or $25 per couple. Tickets will also be on sale at the door $15 ea.(upon availability)

 

August 5th (Sunday)

Redneck River Run!
Presented by:
O'Donnell's Cottages and Expeditions
Put in time will be 12 noon at McNamee/ Priceville Footbridge, with estimated arrival at O'Donnell's Cottages at 4p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the most Uniquely and Creatively decorated means of transportation..ie. Canoe, Kayak, Tube,or Raft, etc.
Theme: "Over the Decades!"
A BBQ will also be offered at a small fee at O'Donnell's, as well Canoe and Kayak Rentals will be discounted for the event! Shuttle times will vary so be sure to book early!

Gospel Event
Presented By: Doak Historic Site
2:00 p.m. through 4:00p.m.
A group of local gospel entertainers will perform under the shade of the Doak Historic Site Tent. Bring along a snack and some lemonade and enjoy some Miramichi Gospel Favorites. Admission by Donation.

“The  Way Things Use To Be!", Nite Lite Parade and NB Day Fireworks!
All floats must be lined up at 9:30p.m. @ Doaktown Picnic Site. This year’s parade is planning to be bigger and better then ever before!
Also the Pharmasave crew will be holding a BBQ on the grounds to raise funds for breast cancer research, and finally things will wrap up with the Doaktown Fire Fighters and their annual NB Day Fireworks Display!

August 6th (Monday)

NB Day Merit Awards
Doak Historic Site
Time: 1 p.m.
Come Celebrate local Volunteers and achievers as the Village of Doaktown's Mayor Stewart awards with the honor. As well, the site will be hosting local cook's dishes in their kitchen to taste test with the best recipe winning. All recipes must include Salmon or Fiddleheads.

Wild, Wet and Wacky Day!
2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Atlantic Salmon Museum
How Hot is August 6th.....Too Hot... and what a better way to get cooled down than to visit the Atlantic Salmon Museum. You will be guaranteed to be drenched by the end of the day with Water Relay Races, a 30+ Meter Water Slide and other activities. Come see what's new and tour the museum while your children play! Free Admission to Children under 12. Parent/ Guardian Supervision for children 15 and under.

If anyone is interested in helping with the 2008 festival, or has input toward the festival, please contact the Village Office. The Village of Doaktown would like to invite all residents of Doaktown and surrounding areas to join in this annual event. Mayor Stewart, the Council and all committee members wish all an enjoyable and safe festival weekend!
